The the oldest and largest of the old oaks are located along the vestiges of Bayou Metairie, a remnant of the ancient
dis tributary of the Mississippi River. In this early 1900s photograph what remains of Bayou Metairie runs, as it does today,
along the edge of the Peristyle. (LDL)
