In1911 Eli Watson built his mansion in the 400 block of Metairie Road on land measuring
150 by 318 by 270 feet bounded by a brick garden wall at a cost of $15,000. By 1928 (the year after he reigned as Rex, pictured
here) he had built and owned the first bridge across Lake Pontchartrain which was the longest bridge in the world. At a cost
of $5,000,000, it was named the Watson-Williams Bridge for his company of investment bankers headed by him and his partner
