Bayou St. John at the Lake - 1948

LakePontchartrain/BayouStJohn1948.gif

Bayou St. John meets the Lake, probably 1948. Note the relatively straight walls of the channel near the lake compared to the winding shore of the old Bayou. Where the two meet (approximately at what is now Robert E. Lee Blvd.) was the original lake shore before land was reclaimed during the 1920's and 1930's. It was to this point that Pierre LeMoyne Sieur d'Iberville was led by Native Americans. (Courtesy of New Orleans Public Library.)
