The New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) Casting Pier was dedicated in 1955 with opening ceremonies which included George Voieier, the first vice-president of Dixie Casting and Fishing Association; Mayor DeLesseps Story "Chep" Morrison; L.J. Lautenschlaeger, director of NORD; and city councilman Glenn P. Chasen.
