By 1922, New Orleanians were riding the famous "Smokey Mary" out to Milneburg which by then included not only camps but also hotels, restaurants, roadhouses, shooting galleries, bathing facilities and fishing piers. Early jazz music was a popular attraction at Milneburg's bandstands, dance halls, and taverns. Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong and Danny Barker were just a few of the jazz greats who performed in Milneburg. (Courtesy New Orleans Public Library.)
