Do Drive In Theatre

Metairie/DoDriveIn.jpg

The infamous Do Drive In showed its last B movie during the 1980s before it was torn down to build the upscale Old Metairie Village Shopping Center and the exclusive DeLimon Place condominium development which was named for Henry DeLimon who had owned an orange grove on the property during the early 1900s. At 609 Metairie Road was Villar & Sons Roofing Contractors where “Villars Roofs Fool the Rain” -- during the 1940s Villar offered Genuine Bangor Slates and Ru-Ber-Oid Asbestos Shingles.

Many New Orleans area residents still remember the Mike Persia Chevrolet jingle; “Buy your Chevrolet from Persia..”.  In 1961, a Persia dealership was on Metairie Road. Other locations included, over the years, Veterans Highway, Canal Street, North Rampart Street, and St. Claude Avenue.
