O'Shaughnessy's Bowling Center

Metairie/OShaughnessys.jpg

One of the childhood delights of riding down Airline Highway to the Orleans parish line after dark was viewing O’Shaughnessy’s fantastic neon sign depicting a bowler in action, perpetually scoring a strike. The bowling center at 101 Airline offered 40 air conditioned alleys as well as billiard tables, food, and drink and an automobile service station. This photograph was taken in 1957. The property is now the location of a bottled water company. (Courtesy of the Jefferson Parish Yearly Review.)
